The Healing Power of Your Story

A global social experiment in cultivating human connection

What Would Happen...

...if we created a space where people could safely share their stories with each other and lovingly hear the stories of others?

...if we put down all our brilliant theories, concepts and models for a few minutes and simply listened deeply to another person?

...if we suspended our need to fix what's wrong, make it all better, solve problems or bury our emotions?

Let's find out together, with The Healing Power of Your Story.

I love the sound of this already!

How this experiment arose

In September 2021, my first book was published. In advance of the publishing process, I invited about 80 people to read the book and share their feedback.

I was so surprised by what happened next! The emails began flowing in, all with a variation on this theme: These poems prompted me to look inside myself and examine my own life more deeply

This got me thinking:

What if people could come together and share the things we noticed from this deeper looking?

How could the simple act of remaining open and present to the life experiences of another human being foster connection, trust and healing?

What ripple effect might this have in a world seemingly defined by so much separation, divisiveness and conflict?

I decided to create an opportunity to experiment so we can find out the answers to these questions together.

Yes, I want to be part of this!

This is for you if:

  • you are excited or intrigued by the idea of an experiment to foster deeper connections with others
  • you've ever felt invisible, alone or unseen
  • life has been easy for you and you want to become a better ally to those who struggle
  • you are a teacher, coach or human development professional who is committed to deepening your practice
  • you are a leader committed to changing the culture of connection at work for the better
  • you don't understand why some people complain so much about how hard it is, and you genuinely want to learn more without being judged or labelled negatively
I'm in!

Here's the plan:

  • We will meet on the last Sunday of every month in 2022 (except August and December) at 1pm Eastern Time (New York/Toronto) on Zoom.
  • We’ll begin with a reading from Heart Matters: A Poetic Revolution of Truth, Healing and Belonging.
  • You’ll have a chance to sit quietly and make a few notes about reflections on your own life that are evoked by the reading.
  • Small group sharing - this is where deeper human connection happens.
  • Unlike personal growth or coach training workshops, there is nothing to fix, nothing to remedy and nothing needs to be changed. We are simply practicing holding a loving and safe space for each others’ stories.
  • We’ll come back together, speak together about what it was like to engage in this experiment.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of the sharing in the small groups, we will not be making a recording available afterwards.

Leadership consultant & facilitator, executive coach, poet and Canadian woman of colour, Shahmeen is a bridge between worlds.

She founded Anjali Leadership Inc. in 2005 and has guided the development of leaders from a wide variety of industries since then. She is a beloved teacher and mentor to leadership coaches and hosts a variety of personal development communities as well.

Shahmeen creates safe spaces where people feel (and know) that they belong, and she teaches and guides her clients to do so as well. In 2009 she was honoured by the International Coach Federation with a Prism Award for one such project: large system healing and culture change within a fractured not-for-profit organization.

Shahmeen’s first role as a teacher was in the early 1990’s when she became a skydiving instructor. While she no longer jumps out of airplanes for fun, the spirit of confronting fears and leaping into life’s mysteries has always been with her. Since then, she has studied a breadth of human development and healing modalities from meditation/mindfulness, Pilates and yoga to family and systems constellations, through nutrition counselling and energy medicine. Her work weaves over 30 years of seeking, learning and practice into potent transformational guidance for people who are interested in becoming whole, empowered contributors to the well-being of humanity.
